Gurara Falls is such a beautiful space to visit and truly commune with nature. It’s one of those places that reminds you just how much this country has to offer, if only our leaders fully tapped into the incredible tourism potential sitting right in front of us. The waterfalls are undeniably stunning. Located about two hours outside Abuja, my girls and I made a day-trip picnic out of it. Pro tip: set out very early so you can beat the traffic. Once you arrive, guides are available to assist you. Ours were amazing, they carried our picnic items to and from our chosen spot. One stayed behind with our things while the other two led our party of five on one of the best hikes I’ve done in a while. We hiked up the waterfall back to the parking lot then returned to our picnic site. It’s not an easy hike, so come prepared (a bottle of water is essential), but the views and the experience are absolutely worth it. Afterward, we had the most relaxing time by the water, eating, kiki-ing, and even napping. Because we went before the rainy season when the water levels were lower, some of us were able to swim. By 5pm, we were on our way back to Abuja and everyone was home by 8pm, perfect timing for a wholesome day trip. A few practical notes: the gate fee is ₦2,000 per person. You’re expected to tip your guides, and considering how hospitable, attentive, and kind they are, please be generous within your means. There are also drinks sold on-site if you’d like to support the local economy, which is always encouraged. All in all, Gurara Falls is a refreshing, grounding escape and a reminder of Nigeria’s untapped natural beauty.

It a very beautiful place, located in Niger state. It’s abt 1hr from Abuja city. It’s easy to find as it is on the map. The road is smooth. We went in the month of May which when we got there we were told it’s a better experience during the dry season. The water was too much for anyone to enter it. So we had to go to d water bank, Whr d water rest to experience a bit of it. In all, it was a great experience.

I and other tour guides led a group of 15 tourists from Abuja and Niger State to the magnificent Gurara Waterfalls which is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Niger State! Our visit was filled with exciting moments and breathtaking views which allowed us to experience nature in its purest form. During the visit, we met with Abdullahi Maji, the Manager of Gurara Waterfalls, who shared valuable insights about the site's history, significance, and the ongoing efforts by the Niger State Government to preserve and promote it as a top tourist destination in Nigeria and Africa. We also learnt that the Gurara river is home to different varieties of fishes such as Tilapia, Catfish, Snake fish, and Electric fish. Witnessing the moment a local fisherman caught a giant catfish using his local fishing techniques was also an amazing experience. Currently the management of the waterfall allows activities such as hiking, camping, swimming (in controlled and low current areas), outdoor games, fishing, cultural festivals and dance performances while activities such as cycling and canoe rides are to be introduced soon. Staff were very friendly and kind to even share mangoes they had plucked earlier with all of us as a welcome gift. Best time to visit if you want to be very close to the water is from December to April and early May when the current is low due to lack of rainfall. The experience highlighted not just the scenic splendor, but also the vast potential for eco-tourism development in the area. From hiking adventures to storytelling moments, the day was a perfect blend of adventure and learning. Special thanks to Happy Trails Network, Nas Travels and Tours, Lapai TV and Niger State Tourism Corporation for making this journey truly memorable. We look forward to seeing positive developments that will come up in the waterfalls after our visit.

Do you know I still go back to the videos and pictures I took in Guarara Waterfalls and admire them? I loved every bit of that experience and you too will surely enjoy it more. All you need is 1000 naira ticket to access the place. I sincerely wish the government of Niger State to enhance this place.

Went in a group and it was worth it and FUN!!! The road is a good road and about an hour journey from Minna. We paid a gate fee of 1k but no receipt for it though. We saw the fall from 3 different points and they were all beautiful. It rained the night before visiting so the water was full although not clear and clean I guessed due to the rainfall the previous night and also because it's almost at the peak of the raining season. There were so many signs of danger and not to swim in the water. There are lots of rocks in the water so it added to the caution.
